Department: M&E - Pre-construction

Location: London

Description

Harmony is on a mission to be the best life safety partner to work with and for. Rated an ‘Outstanding Employer’ by Best Companies in 2025, we are only getting bigger and stronger — and we’re looking for A-players to help us get there.

We are passionate about making a difference and obsessed with quality. Our goal is to build a world where every resident can sleep safely at night, knowing their home is 100% safe.

We are looking for a Junior M&E Designer to join our M&E Pre-Construction team in London. You will support the design and specification of mechanical and electrical fire safety systems — including fire alarms, emergency lighting, sprinklers, and associated M&E works — producing drawings, design packages, and technical documentation that underpin our tender submissions and pre-construction programmes across a nationwide portfolio.

This is a great opportunity for an early-career M&E designer to develop their skills in a fast paced, technically demanding environment, supported by experienced engineers and working on projects that directly contribute to the safety of buildings and residents across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

Produce M&E design drawings and schematics for fire alarm, emergency lighting, sprinkler, and associated mechanical and electrical fire safety systems, using CAD and BIM tools.
Support senior designers and engineers in the preparation of design packages, specifications, and technical documentation for tender submissions and pre construction activity.
Carry out design take-offs and produce equipment schedules, cable schedules, and associated documentation for use in tender submissions and project handovers.
Assist with the review and interpretation of client specifications, architectural drawings, and structural information to inform M&E designs.
Support site surveys and pre-construction visits, contributing to the capture of site information and the production of as-existing drawings.
Ensure all design outputs comply with relevant British Standards (including BS 5839, BS 5266, and BS EN 12845), Approved Documents, and client requirements.
Maintain accurate and well-organised drawing registers and design file management across live projects.
Liaise with the estimating and pre-construction teams to ensure design outputs align with project scope and pricing.
Assist with the preparation of O&M documentation and design handover packs for won projects.
Develop your knowledge of M&E fire safety systems, standards, and pre-construction processes, supported by the wider M&E team.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

An A-player mindset — high standards, extreme ownership and the drive to do things properly, the first time.
Experience or strong academic grounding in M&E design, building services engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Proficient in AutoCAD; experience with Revit or other BIM tools is a strong advantage.
Good understanding of mechanical and electrical building services systems, with a developing knowledge of fire safety systems (fire alarms, emergency lighting, sprinklers).
Familiarity with relevant British Standards and design requirements for M&E fire safety systems (preferable).
Strong attention to detail — accurate and thorough in drawing production, documentation, and data management.
Organised and proactive — able to manage multiple tasks across live projects and meet deadlines.
Good communicator — comfortable working alongside engineers, estimators, and project teams.
Degree or HNC/HND in building services engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline (preferable).
London office-based with willingness to travel to sites nationwide as required.

Job Benefits

This is a chance to launch your M&E design career at one of the UK’s fastest-growing fire safety specialists — working alongside experienced engineers on a varied nationwide portfolio of fire alarm, emergency lighting, and sprinkler projects, in a team that will invest in your development from day one. At Harmony, we ask a lot — and we give a lot back. The hours are real, the standards are high and the work is demanding, but for those who show up, deliver and go the extra mile, the rewards follow. A-players here enjoy a competitive salary, a Personal Development Plan with ongoing training and mentoring, unlimited holiday, a bonus scheme paying up to 50% of annual salary, enhanced maternity and paternity, lunch, snacks and refreshments on us every day (fresh fruit and Takeaway Friday included), a team social budget, cycle to work, an auto-enrolment pension, two major company events a year and our Reward and Recognition scheme — including European mini-breaks for those who go above and beyond. It is a collaborative, high-energy environment focused on doing things the right way — and none of it is a perk for showing up; it’s what we share with the people pulling the business forward.

Harmony is an equal opportunity employer. We consider all applicants for employment regardless of age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, family or parental status, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief. We want everyone who works with us to feel valued and to make a difference.
