Mechanical Design Engineer | M&E Building Services | London | £60,000–£75,000 + Hybrid Working
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a well-established M&E Building Services contractor delivering commercial office fit-out projects across Central London, typically ranging from £100k to £2m+ in value.
Working within a fast-paced Design & Build environment, this role offers the opportunity to be involved in the full project lifecycle, from initial concept and design development through to delivery and handover.

The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing and coordinating mechanical building services designs, ensuring they are both technically robust and deliverable on site.
You will work closely with internal delivery teams, subcontractors, and clients, playing a key role in ensuring designs are aligned with programme, cost, and buildability requirements.
Projects typically range from small works through to larger commercial fit-out installations, generally from £100 up to £2m+ in value.
Key responsibilities include:
- Producing mechanical building services designs and specifications
- Supporting design development from concept through to detailed design
- Coordinating designs within a Design & Build environment
- Working closely with project and site teams to ensure buildable solutions
- Attending design meetings and liaising with clients and stakeholders
- Supporting technical submissions and documentation
- Assisting with on-site queries and design adjustments during delivery
Requirements
- Experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer within the Building Services sector
- Background in either contractor or consultancy environments
- Strong understanding of mechanical building services systems
- Experience working on commercial projects (fit-out or refurbishment preferred)
- Familiarity with Design & Build projects or fast-paced delivery environments
- Ability to produce practical, buildable design solutions
- Experience with design software such as AutoCAD and ideally Revit/BIM tools
- Stable career history demonstrating commitment and reliability (this role is not suited to frequent job movers)
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
Candidates from a consultancy background will be considered, provided they are comfortable working in a fast-paced Design & Build environment and taking ownership of deliverable, buildable designs.
Remuneration Package – Mechanical Design Engineer
- £60,000–£75,000
- Hybrid working (typically 3 days from home, 2 days in the office)
