Mechanical Design Lead - Portugal - Hybrid / RemoteLocation: Portugal (Hybrid / Remote)Salary: €100,00 - €125,000 + Travel + BonusType: Permanent | Hybrid / RemoteSector: Data Centres & Pharmaceutical ProjectsA highly respected UK-based engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Lead to support the delivery of major data centre and pharmaceutical projects across Portugal and wider Europe.This consultancy is known for delivering technically complex, mission-critical facilities for global technology and life-science clients. With a strong reputation for design excellence, long-term client relationships, and a collaborative culture, the business is experiencing sustained growth and is expanding its senior mechanical leadership capability.This role offers a rare opportunity to take ownership of mechanical design delivery while benefiting from hybrid and remote working, exposure to flagship projects, and long-term career progression within a stable, design-led organisation.As Mechanical Design Lead, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical design strategy across multiple projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and efficient delivery from concept through to construction and commissioning support.You will act as a key technical authority, working closely with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary design teams.Key ResponsibilitiesLead mechanical design delivery across data centre and pharmaceutical projectsTake ownership of design quality, technical compliance, and client standardsManage and coordinate mechanical design teams and external consultantsDevelop and review HVAC, cooling, ventilation, and specialist mechanical systemsEnsure designs meet local and international codes, standards, and best practiceInterface directly with clients, contractors, and stakeholdersSupport value engineering, constructability reviews, and risk mitigationProvide technical input during construction, commissioning, and handover phasesMentor and develop junior and intermediate engineersRequirementsDegree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering10+ years’ experience in mechanical building services designStrong background in data centres and/or pharmaceutical facilitiesProven experience leading mechanical design teams and complex projectsDeep technical knowledge of HVAC, cooling strategies, and critical environmentsConfident client-facing professional with excellent communication skillsAbility to work autonomously within a senior leadership positionComfortable working in a hybrid / remote model with travel as requiredWhat’s on Offer€100,000 - €125,000 base salaryTravel allowance and performance bonusHybrid and remote working flexibilityWork on flagship European data centre and pharmaceutical programmesLong-term career progression within a high-performing UK consultancyCollaborative, design-led culture with strong technical focus
