City M&E Ltd is an established mechanical and electrical contractor delivering projects across the commercial, education, and healthcare sectors, with the majority of our work located in Central London. We have a strong reputation for technical competence, reliable delivery, and long-term client relationships, with a high proportion of repeat business.
Due to continued workload, we are seeking an electrically biased M&E Estimator to undertake project tendering and support our pre-construction activities.
The Role
The role will focus on the preparation of accurate and competitive estimates for mechanical and electrical packages, with a primary emphasis on electrical services. The successful candidate will take responsibility for tenders from enquiry through to submission, working closely with management, suppliers, and consultants.
This position suits an estimator who is comfortable working autonomously, understands technically complex environments, and is accustomed to pricing regulated sectors such as schools and hospitals.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed estimates for M&E projects, electrically biased
- Undertake take-offs from drawings, specifications, and schedules
- Review tender documentation and identify scope gaps, risks, and clarifications
- Obtain, assess, and negotiate supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Prepare tender returns, including pricing schedules and clarifications
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and internal project teams during tender stage
- Assist with value engineering and cost certainty exercises
- Maintain organised records of estimates, supplier pricing, and historical cost data
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience as an Electrical or M&E Estimator within the construction industry
- Strong technical knowledge of electrical building services systems
- Experience pricing commercial projects, ideally within education and healthcare environments
- Familiarity with JCT and similar forms of contract
- Able to work accurately from drawings and specifications with minimal supervision
- Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Competent in Excel and estimating tools (Excel-based estimating experience welcomed)
